What material can be used to make biomass pellets

If you open this page, it means you are familiar with biomass pellets and pellets making. The biomass pellets is a product made by pellet machine line (including chipper, crusher, dryer, pellet mill, pellet cooler, packing machine and others) from biomass material, such as sawdust. Biomass pellets are mainly used for burning, both for home use and industry use, for boiler, power plant and others. They also have other usage, like cat litter. Pellet machines are widely used for different kinds of raw materials, but not all the waste can turn out biomass pellets. What materials are suitable for biomass pellet machine? Below information may help you to get a better understanding of our machines.

1. Crop residues

The crop residues including cotton stalks, wheat straw, rice straw, corn stover, corn cobs other cereal straw and so on. From crop residues can make not only clean energy, but also other products. For example: xylitol, furfural (from corncob), fiber board (corn stalks, wheat stalks, cotton stalks and other stalks), most of the straws can be processed as the main material for fertilizer (plant food).

2. Sawdust from sawmill

The sawdust come out of band-saw is ideal for pellets making. They have small and uniform size, clean and cheap, don’t need pre treatment. Pellets made from this sawdust have smooth surface, good hardness, and very stable. As sawdust don’t need to be crushed or be dried, this material will save a lot of cost on machines.

3. Shavings from furniture factory

The shavings are thin but a little big. If feed shavings into the pellet machine directly, they may stuck the machine and pellets don’t go out. Thus, shavings usually need to be rushed before making pellets.

4. Sand powder in board factory and furniture factory

Sand powder are light. 100% sand powder is not suitable for pellets making, it can clog the die. Mixing 50% sand powder with 50% sawdust will solve this problem and get good pellets.

5. Wooden board scraps, wood chips scraps

Scraps are big and with different shapes, need crushing before put them into pellet machine.

6. Fiber material

Fiber material can be used to make pellets, the fiber should not longer than 5 mm.
